Della Mae Altier, 71, passed away Friday, June 9, 2017, in her Washington, Pa., home, with her husband by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Virginia Spicer Fagan. Surviving are her husband, David of Washington, with whom she recently celebrated 50 years of marriage; a son, David of London, England; a sister, Sarah Fagan Huweart of Gaithersburg, Md.; a brother, John Fagan of Rock Island, Tenn.; 19 nieces and nephews; and many other beloved family members and in-laws, too numerous to list, all of whom were dear to her. She also leaves behind her cat, Buddy. Mrs. Altier was a 1963 graduate of Rostraver High School and a 1964 graduate of Duff’s Business Institute, which led to her first career as an executive secretary at U.S. Steel for nine years, until the birth of her son. Following the next 20 years as a loving homemaker, she joined Keystone Bakery in the early ‘90s, after her son went off to college. If you shopped at the Belle Vernon, Monessen, or Charleroi Keystone bakeries in the past 25 years, you likely received a generous smile from Mrs. Altier, working as a salesperson and store manager, making many friends along the way. In her free time, she was an avid reader, a gift she shared with her son. Although no public services are scheduled, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123, 1-800-227-2345, or at www.cancer.org. The family recognizes all of Mrs. Altier’s supporters throughout her illness, and Amedisys Hospice, who provided outstanding support in her final days.
