George Petrosky, 94 of Van Voorhis, passed away Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born May 25, 1923, in Fallowfield Township, a son of the late George and Kathryn Repich Petrosky. Mr. Petrosky was a 1941 graduate of Monongahela High School. After his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving from 1942 to 1946. Following his discharge, he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. Early in his career he worked in coal mining, at a dairy, as an accountant and then was employed as an agent with the IRS, retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Katherine Drexel Parish, Bentleyville, James C. Ford American Legion Post No. 949 in Carroll Township and the National Active and Retired Federal Employee Association. He enjoyed gardening and particularly giving away the bulk of his harvest. On Aug 29, 1953, he married Rose Marie Makowski Petrosky. They celebrated 63 years of marriage. Surviving in addition to his wife are numerous nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents are six sisters and three brothers. Mr. Petrosky was the last of his immediate family. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 619 Main St., Bentleyville, where prayers will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Katherine Drexel Parish, Bentleyville Campus, with the Rev. Edward L. Yuhas, administrator, officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by James C. Ford American Legion Post No. 949 Carrol Township.
