Catherine A. Niemi, 96, of Monessen, died on Sunday, Sept. 10, in the Gardens of Lincoln Court North Versailles. Born in Monessen on Oct. 22, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Magdalena Kozan Gaysac. A 1937 Graduate of Monessen High School and the Douglas Business School. Kay retired as the payroll clerk for General Motors Fisher Body Plant. She was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church. A former member of St. Anthony’s Church where she served as Eucharistic Minister, CCD program administrator and as President of the Ladies Guild. She served as historian for the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. She was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 194 where she organized and served as the first president of the Monessen Croatian Ladies Auxiliary. Kay also served as a volunteer with the Monessen Meals on Wheels. Besides her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband, Leo; three sisters, Barbara Cernic, Helen Baker and Elizabeth Persin; and two half-brothers, Alphonso and Leonard Ritmanich. She is survived by seven nephews, Donald Baker, James (Mary Ellen) Baker, Jonathan (Angelika) Baker, John (Patricia Kennedy) Zoretich, Gregory Persin and Martin and Leonard Ritmanich; three nieces, Barbara Persin Black, Roxanne (Louis) Manderino and Veronica Ritmanich Pierce; and a godchild, Kathy Zupan Nicolls. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at ROBERT A. BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. Grand Boulevard and Marion Avenue, Monessen, www.billicksfuneralhome.com. A blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Funeral Home followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass in the Epiphany of Our Lord Church 44 Penna. Blvd., Monessen, with Father Michael Crookston officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. As per Kay’s requests memorial contributions can be made to the Epiphany of Our Lord Church.
