Ronald F. Ostrander, 68, of Harrisonville, Pa., formerly of Monongahela, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He was born March 29, 1949, in New Eagle, the son of William and Ruth Lentz Ostrander. Ron was a graduate of Monongahela High School, class of 1967. He attained the rank of Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving two tours of duty during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of a Purple Heart along with several other service, campaign, gallantry and combat medals. While a resident of Monongahela, he was a longtime officer at the former Turners Club. His memberships include: Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Mon Valley Leathernecks and the Fulton Overseas Veterans Association. Ron enjoyed spending his time working in his vegetable garden, playing pool, woodworking, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his daughter, Kiley (Justin) Bright of Venetia; two sons, Ron (Erika Skraitz) Ostrander, Jr. of Belle Vernon, Michael (Darica Dement) Ostrander of Ohio; and their mother, Linda Eckels Ostrander of Monongahela; three grandchildren, Miranda Ostrander, Jaelyn Rossini, Kayci Bright; great-grandson, Christian Evans; two sisters, Linda Ostrander of Bentleyville, Cathie (Bill) Koch of New Eagle; and brother, Joe Ostrander of Bentleyville. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela, where services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, with the Rev. Mark Woomer officiating. Committal services and interment will follow in the Finleyville Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Mon Valley Firing Squad and Honor Guard.
