Shirley L. Halverson – New Eagle

Shirley L. Halverson, 89, of New Eagle, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, in Victoria House, Monessen. She was born Aug. 29, 1928, in Monongahela, the daughter of Harvey and Agnes Dombrowsky Lenhart. Shirley was a Monongahela High School graduate, Class of 1946. In her younger years, she was employed at Roma Restaurant in Monongahela, where she met Ralph R. Halverson in 1946. They married in August 1947. Shirley worked at Monongahela Memorial Hospital in New Eagle until 1950, when they started their family. In 1960, Shirley went back to work at the hospital as a dietary supervisor until her retirement in 1990. She was a lifelong member of First Christian Church in Monongahela. She enjoyed playing euchre with her family and friends, doing ceramics, crocheting, needlework and bingo. But most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn (Ronald) Haight of New Eagle; son, Ralph (Linda) Halverson Jr. of Port Vue; five grandchildren, Christine (Ronald) Baer-Corrado of North Carolina, Jill Baer-Haluska of Mt. Lebanon, Monica (Rick) Baer-Hurt of Wexford, Donna and David Halverson of Monongahela; five great-grandchildren, Jordan (Taryn) Corrado of North Carolina, Alyssa Corrado of North Carolina, Kaitlyn Haluska of Mt. Lebanon and Morgan and Delaney Hurt of Wexford; brother-in-law, Ken Bawden of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph R. Halverson, and her sister, Dodie Lenhart Bawden. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela, where services will be held at noon Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, with the Rev. Charles Cochran officiating. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to First Christian Church, 630 Chess St., Monongahela or to the Washington County Humane Society, P.O. Box 66, Eighty Four, PA 15330.
