Rosalia Bertola – Monessen

Rosalia Bertola, 83, of Monessen, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, in Paramount Senior Living at South Hills. She was born on Oct. 20, 1933, in Alia, Sicily, the eldest daughter of the late Salvatore and Francesca DiPasquale DiPiazza. She moved from Alia, at the age of 19, and settled in Monessen, with her husband. Her two sons, “Sammy” and Anthony, were the light of her life. Rosalia worked as a cook for Monessen High School and La Eda’s Restaurant for many years. Rosalia also enjoyed cooking traditional Italian food for friends and family, listening to Italian music and baking with her sisters. She was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church in Monessen. Family and good friends were everything to Rosalia. She looked forward to every visit, and enjoyed holidays with extended family. She is survived by her son, Anthony F. (Jacki) Bertola of Venetia, Pa.; grandchildren, Anthony David, Rocco Salvatore and Sabrina Roseanne Bertola; brothers, Calogero (Maria) DiPiazza of Greensburg, and Luigi (Concetta) DiPiazza of South Hackensack, N.J.; sisters, Concetta DiPiazza of Monessen, and Carmella Sangiorgi of Totowa, N.J.; sister-in-law, Anna Marie DiPiazza of Monessen; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Christenzio Bertola, in 1979; son, Salvatore “Sammy” Bertola, in 1978; sisters, Maria DiPiazza and Elena Morello; and brother, Giuseppe DiPiazza. Friends will be received from noon to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15 at Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Ave., Monessen, 724-684-8750, where a Blessing Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16 followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Epiphany of Our Lord R.C.
