David Robert Mills, 51, of Monongahela, Forward Township, died unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at his home. He was born July 22, 1966, in Syracuse, N.Y., the son of Marianne Tom Rosignoli and stepson of Harold Rosignoli of Dahlonega, Ga., and the late Robert Franklin Mills. Dave grew up in Syracuse, N.Y. After high school, he headed to the West Coast where he attended the Dick Grove School of Music in Los Angeles and received a degree in sound recording engineering. It was while he was out west that he met his future wife, Beth Scagline, who was attending law school in California. Dave and Beth were married on Aug. 1, 1992, and made their home in Forward Township. He attended Duquesne University, where he received a masters degree in music technology. In 1994, Dave began working for the Manchester Craftsmen Guild on the Northside of Pittsburgh, where he served as production manager for jazz concerts. Dave furthered his education at California University of Pennsylvania, receiving his teaching degree in math and music. He was hired in July of 2009 at Belle Vernon Area High School, where he was teaching math and music to middle and high school students. He also tutored students after school and during the summer. For over 20 years, Dave taught piano lessons from his home and at Accent Music Studio in Pleasant Hills. He also had a passion for photography. On the billboards in the back of his classroom, he created the “Wall of Fame,” featuring photos of school students participating in sports. He created a website for taking sports pictures, senior portraits and a vast array of other pictures so that families could download the photos. Dave believed that good teachers establish relationships built on trust and respect with their students. Dave was a member of Norwin Christian Church in North Huntingdon, where he played the piano and was a part of their Praise Team for a number of years. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, taking trips to the cabin and traveling with his friends and loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 25 years, Beth Scagline-Mills; sister, Debbie (Rick) Johnston of Woodstock, Ga.; brother, Darrin (Colleen) Mills of Syracuse, N.Y., and their children, Andrew and Thomas; mother-in-law, Betty Kisner of Monongahela; brother-in-law, Michael Scagline of Monongahela; sister-in-law, Rhonda (Thurman) Wingrove, M.D., of Carroll Township and their children, Samuel and Corinne; brother-in-law, Rodney (Lori) Scagline of Murrysville and their children, Jason and Julia; sister-in-law, Dawn (Scott) Valentino of Elizabeth and their children, Alyssa (Anthony) Plumberg and Vincent; brother-in-law, William Kisner Jr. of Elizabeth and his children, Melissa (Ryan) Thompson and Gavin, Kaelin (Joe) Henderson and daughter, Nova; brother-in-law, Robert (Anna) Kisner of Elizabeth and their children, Josh (Kasey) Kisner and sons Jaxson and Kayson, Jennifer (Dustin) Godtfring, and Joellie Kisner.
