Howard R. Mountain Jr., 74, of New Eagle, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, in Family Hospice, Mt. Lebanon. Born June 13, 1943, in Monongahela, he was the son of the late Howard R. Sr. and Sarah I. “Sally” Mountain. Howard was a 1962 graduate of Monongahela High School and had worked as a mechanic and heavy eqiupment operator for the Matthies Coal Co. until his retirement. He enjoyed working on small machinery and fishing in his spare time and was a member of the Hoot Owls Club in New Eagle. Surviving are, a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Heather Mountain of Finleyville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Wayne Yancec of New Eagle, Kimberly and Greg Carey of Washington,Pa., and Sheri and Chuck Browning of Canonsburg; two brothers, David R. and the late Patty Mountain of Monongahela, and Thomas E. and Karen Mountain of New Eagle; five grandchildren, Sara (Jared), Stefanie, Kayla and fiancé, Nick, Molly and Alianah; three stepgrandchildren, Tom, Carly and Samantha; two great-grandchildren, Chase and Autumn; many nieces and nephews; his loving companion, Peggy Nelson, of New Eagle; and his cats, Paisley and Coco. Preceding him in death was his wife, Gloria J. Metzler Mountain, who died Feb. 13, 2016. Interment will be private and held in Mingo Cemetery, Finleyville.
