James ‘Jim’ Calvin Lewis Sr. – Monongahela

 

James “Jim” Calvin Lewis Sr., 56, of Monongahela, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 8, 2018. He was born on Sept. 6, 1961, in Elrama. He was the son of the late Carl and Jacqueline Randolph Lewis. Following his graduation in 1979 from Ringgold High School, he went on to study at Triangle School of Technology and Point Park University. After college, he began working for Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Large, Pa., until 1994. Later he worked for Voltech and GE Power Conversion and currently was working at Therm-o-Rock in New Eagle. Jim volunteered much of his time as a youth baseball and soccer coach for 17 years, including nine years as president of the Mon Valley Youth Soccer Association and an Assistant Scout Master to Boy Scouts of America Troop 1448 for 15 years. He was an active volunteer with the Elrama Volunteer Fire Company, serving as treasurer, and a dedicated brother of F&AM Lodge 526 and Odd Fellows Lodge 377. Throughout his life, he selflessly dedicated himself to helping others and his community. For many years, he organized and executed a community Thanksgiving dinner that fed hundreds of people each year. As a volunteer EMT, paramedic and fireman, he saved countless lives and helped bring a few into the world. He is survived by his loving wife, Suzan Lynne (Hardinger) Lewis; his three sons and their families, James Lewis Jr., Jared and Jennifer Lewis, and Jacob Lewis and Stephanie Frye, all of Monongahela; one grandson, Ian Lewis; his three siblings and their families, Jodie Olszewski of Belle Vernon, Joyce Kiritchenko of Moon Township, and Jack Lewis of Buena Vista; and 16 nieces and nephews and two great-nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister who died as an infant. A celebration of his life and legacy will be held at the Elrama Volunteer Fire Company from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018. Friends and family are also invited to attend a funeral service that will be held at True Vine Anglican Church, 700 E. Main St., Monongahela, beginning at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, with the Rev. William Lytle officiating. Inurnment will be private and held in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Township.
