The day before Washington County became the first in Western Pennsylvania to have a positive case of coronavirus, Donora council formed its committee to combat the virus.
At this week’s meeting, President Joe Greco introduced Donora residents Darlene Homa, certified registered nurse anesthetist; Carol Soltes, head nurse of the operating room at Mon Valley Hospital; and Donora native Dr. John Danek, a doctor of osteopathic medicine.
They gave a presentation at the meeting about how to prevent the virus and began discussions about forming a plan for how Donora will respond if the virus comes to the borough.
The best tips, they said, are to wash your hands, use hand sanitizer, use social distancing — stay about 3 to 6 feet from other people when possible — and cough and sneeze into your elbow.
Homa said it’s best to not visit nursing homes right now because those patients are more susceptible. Anyone who has a cough and a fever of 100.4 or higher and is not getting better is advised to get tested.
