Monessen ‘career criminal’ nabbed

A multi-state “career criminal” is in Westmoreland County Prison after Monessen police recovered more than 20 stolen bins full of merchandise from city stores in his home.

Police Lt. Dave Yuhasz said Charles Edward Smith, 79, of Walnut Avenue, Monessen, was arrested on a Westmoreland County Parole and Probation detainer following a week-long ordeal.
