Facility renovations and security upgrades await Belle Vernon Area School District students as they prepare to return to classrooms Monday.
Enrollment for the 2018-19 school year totals 2,468 district-wide, with 800 students returning to the high school and 378 to the middle school. Rostraver and Marion elementary schools will boast 618 and 672 students, respectively.
Acting Superintendent Dr. Michele Dowell said 157 full-time and two half-time teachers, 15 administrators and supervisors and 20 classroom aides, secretaries and confidential secretaries fill the ranks this year.
“We added a STEM and BCIT teacher to the elementary level that Marion and Rostraver will share,” Dowell said. “All students in (kindergarten through sixth grade) will have a semester of each class.”
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math. BCIT stands for business computer information technology.
