“The Shoeshine Man,” Albert P. Lexie, who shined shoes at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for more than 30 years and donated over $200,000 in tips to a fund for patients, died Tuesday. He was 76.

Lexie took the bus from his home at Westgate Manor in Monessen to the hospital twice a week so he could raise money for the Free Care Fund to benefit the young patients, whom he often referred to as “my kids.”
