Howell Rescue Systems and the Charleroi Area Fire District are teaming up to make sure area children are not disappointed when they wake up Christmas morning.
The Charleroi Area Fire District is sponsoring a Toys for Tots campaign this year and support is already growing.
All of the fire departments that comprise the district — Fallowfield, Charleroi, Lock No. 4 and Stockdale — are joining the campaign.
Charleroi Regional Police, Valley Inn Fire Department and Riskey and Son’s Tire and Auto will also participate.
The campaign is currently under way and new toys can be dropped off at the following locations:
• Howell Rescue Systems, 11 Palmer Way, Fallowfield Township, behind the Fallowfield fire station. Toys can be dropped off at any time, but if a box is not yet in place, unwrapped toys can be left in a bag at the door or with an employee.
• Toys can also be dropped off at any of the participating fire stations or the Charleroi Regional Police Department.
All toys must be unwrapped when dropped off.
Monetary donations, which will be used to purchase toys for residents who want to donate but have someone else do the shopping, will also be accepted.
Checks can be made payable to any of the fire stations, earmarked for the Toys for Tots campaign and sent to the following addresses:
Fallowfield Fire, 1660 Route 481, Charleroi PA, 15022; Charleroi Fire, 328 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi PA, 15022; Lock No. 4 Fire, 540 Isabella Ave., Charleroi PA, 15022; Stockdale Fire, 316 W. Railroad St., Stockdale PA, 15483; Valley Inn Fire, 810 Dry Run Road, Monongahela PA, 15063; Charleroi Regional Police, 338 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi PA, 15022; or Riskey and Son’s Tire, 239 Kennedy Road, Charleroi PA, 15022.
The toys will be purchased in mid-December and given to the Mon Valley Leathernecks for distribution to area families.
Fallowfield fire Chief Anthony Fleming who works for Howell Rescue Systems, said he launched the campaign as a way to bring people together to help children within the community.
“While we don’t have a goal in mind, we want to collect as many toys as we possibly can for needy families this year.”
He is encouraging area residents and local businesses to also get involved.
“It’s not just open to residents, if any local businesses want to be a drop off location that would be great,” Fleming said. “The more the merrier.”
Businesses that want to get involved can become co-sponsors for the drive.
