Donora gas service being restored

Thankfully for Donora residents, temperatures didn’t fall below 30 degrees Saturday as 1,700 residents were without natural gas service.
Around 5 p.m. Saturday, Columbia Gas announced it was in the process of shutting off service as a precautionary measure.
Columbia Gas spokesman Lee Gierczynski said steps were taken to ensure the safety of customers and residents after a contractor working on Mellon Avenue detected a possible influx of air in the system.
While there was no immediate threat to customers, it required the system to be shut down.
