Editorial: Know fire safety before a disaster
HOME FIRES SEEM to peak during winter months, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
That’s certainly been the case in our region, with numerous house fires in the early days of 2019.
The NFPA says a home fire is reported every 88 seconds, yet most families don’t have a plan in place to deal with the situation.
Most importantly, working smoke alarms cut the chances of dying in a house fire in half. But once the alarm sounds, occupants have limited time to escape, the NFPA notes.
