Charleroi borough council unanimously agreed Wednesday to pursue grant money to demolish a crumbling house on Sixth Street.
Council President Jerry Jericho brought up the need to demolish the house last week, concerned that it might come down on its own before council received bids to have it demolished.
The house, which belongs to an out-of-town property owner, has been on Charleroi’s demolition list for several years.
A contractor who previously has completed demolition work in North Charleroi toured the property at 807 Sixth St. and said it was in deplorable condition.
He expected it would cost at least $7,500 to demolish.
During a business meeting last night, council announced they learned about available grant funding through the Redevelopment Authority of Washington County.
While it would save the borough money, the project could take up to eight weeks to start.
Jericho is worried the house won’t last that long.
