Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus announced Monday there’s a chance for some people with criminal histories to “clear up” outstanding warrants incurred as a result of ARD violations.
Kraus said many people who are first time offenders with non-violent charges, such as DUI, are given the opportunity of Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition or ARD, a special pre-trial intervention program in Pennsylvania for non-violent offenders with no prior or limited record.
Participants in the Allegheny County ARD Program are expected to serve a term of supervision under the condition that they will complete a set of stipulations as ordered by the court, according to the Allegheny County Courts’ Pretrial Services Rules.
Kraus said ARD program offenders often fail to inform the courts of their new addresses, and warrants are issued for their arrest. He said in other instances the offenders fail to pay court costs, restitution or don’t meet community service requirements, which also leads to an arrest warrant.
