Whether it be to his family, fellow firefighters or neighbors, that is how the Mon Valley will remember Carroll Township “Chief 63” Robert Greenlee, 65, who passed away unexpectedly at his home Tuesday night.
Carroll Township police Chief Paul Brand said police and emergency medical personnel were called to his home around 10 p.m. Tuesday, where the beloved fire chief passed away from what is believed to be natural causes.
“He was one in a million,” Brand said. “For me, he was not just the fire chief, but he was a good friend. We worked together for decades. It’s hard to put in to words how much everyone is going to miss him.”
Carroll Township supervisors James Harrison and Thomas Rapp said the news came as a shock Wednesday morning.
“It is a sad day,” Rapp said. “Rob has been a great man to work with here in Carroll Township. He was always there to help, not just here, but any where in any community.”
Rob was an emergency responder in many capacities in Washington County since 1972, when he joined the fire service in Waynesburg as a teenager.
He served as chief in Carroll Township for the past 15 years and served for the past two decades as Carroll Township’s Emergency Management Coordinator.
