A state agency letter provided after Friday’s special meeting of Monessen City Council responds to some of Mayor Matt Shorraw’s concerns and offers to help him return to work.
Council unanimously approved borrowing a $500,000 tax anticipation note to cover necessary city expenses, which was the purpose of the special meeting.
However, the letter from Department of Community and Economic Development Deputy Secretary Richard P. Vilello Jr. and addressed to Shorraw, generated the most buzz among council members.
The meeting marked Shorraw’s 23rd consecutive absence since May 10. Councilman Gil Coles has only attended one meeting since last February.
