Peyton Estochin, a 7-year-old from McKeesport’s Christy Park neighborhood, says there isn’t a complicated story behind her inspiration to sell hot cocoa to raise money for the McKeesport K-9 unit.
“I’m doing this because I love German shepherds, I love to have hot chocolate sometimes and because I love cops,” Peyton said. “My Uncle Mark is a cop in Findlay Township and I love him. He’s a big part of it.”
On Sunday afternoon, joined by her parents, Jessica and Sonny Estochin, and several of her aunts, uncles, cousins and family friends, Peyton, a student at Praise Christian Academy, set up the inaugural Peyton’s Hot Chocolate Stand. It was located in the parking lot of Christy Park Cones, an ice cream shop owned by Port Vue Councilman Greg Lombardo.
For more than three hours in windy conditions, the Estochins stood at a homemade wooden hot cocoa stand selling the hot seasonal favorite to raise money for the K-9 unit, a nonprofit that relies on fundraisers and donations.
