Valley Oldies: Stamps of approval benefited shoppers at area businesses

Bonus stamps at supermarkets and other businesses are on the minds of some readers these days.
A woman in California, for example, posed this question:
“You have often written about S&H Green Stamps being given to shoppers at various businesses many years ago. Weren’t there similar bonus stamps at other stores? I think at least one of the supermarkets enticed customers with those. They were really nice because you saved the stamps in a book and then redeemed them for special gifts or bargains.”
While many businesses employed a variety of extra attractions in their marketing plans, the reader may be thinking of Plaid Stamps from A&P supermarkets.
