The Monessen girls basketball team has come a long way this year. Unfortunately, they still have a bit more growing to do before becoming a contender.
California’s Makayla Boda hit a running baseline jumper with just under 17 seconds remaining and Monessen missed an opportunity to win the game at the free-throw line in a 33-32 Trojans’ victory in Section 2-A play.
The Trojans (9-8, 7-4) outscored Monessen, 8-0, in the final quarter to end the game on an 11-1 run, overcoming a nine-point Greyhounds lead.
The Greyhounds (5-13, 4-6) finished 5 of 18 from the charity stripe in the game.
