Two years after the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh merged five Washington County parishes, the diocese has announced four of the parish’s buildings will close next month.
In January 2017, the diocese merged the parishes of St. Agnes in Richeyville, Ave Maria in Bentleyville, St. Joseph in Roscoe, St. Thomas Aquinas in California and St. Oliver Plunkett in Fredericktown (which was housed in St. Michael the Archangel Church and Saints Mary and Ann Church in Marianna).
The new parish is called St. Katharine Drexel and is housed in the former Ave Maria building. Church offices are at that site as well.
At the time of the merger, Bishop David Zubik said all the church buildings would continue to occasionally be used for worship.
