A team of Elizabeth Middle School students are hoping to win a regional student video contest showcasing what is cool about manufacturing.
“Explore the New Manufacturing” student video contest is sponsored by Catalyst Connection and aims to give students a new perspective on current career opportunities and to learn real-world skills.
Eighth grade students Luke Napoli, Brianna Ziemke, Baylee Surdyn, Maxwell Wright, Caiden Brock, Logan Monzak and Ethan Callaghan were partnered with DMI Companies in Forward Township to create a video showcasing their operation.
DMI Companies provide HVAC products, big or small, for contractors around the globe.
Starting in October, the middle school students researched, interviewed, filmed and edited a three-minute video to answer the question of what’s interesting about manufacturing.
Gifted Facilitator Amy Duschek led the students through the process.
This is Elizabeth Forward’s first year competing in the competition and they are the only participating school district from the Mon Valley area.
Twenty-two schools are participating in this year’s contest with the theme, Industry 4.0 – A Bright Future.
Starting Monday, members of the Mid-Mon Valley community will be able to vote for the video.
Votes can be cast at www.whatssocool.org/contests/pittsburgh-central/ from Monday through Friday.
