John ‘Norby’ Napovanic – Donora
John “Norby” Napovanic, 70, of Donora, died Thursday Feb. 7, 2019, at Hallsworth House, Monessen. Born in Charleroi on Jan. 5, 1949, he was the son of John “Curly” and Olga Kolcun Napovanic. Norby was a graduate of California State Teachers College and received a master’s degree from Duquesne University and a master’s degree from Pittsburgh University School of Engineering. Before his retirement he was employed by the Diocese of Pittsburgh for 43 years as a teacher for Pittsburgh Central Catholic and the former Mon Valley Catholic. John started the first robotics program at Pittsburgh Central Catholic. He was a member of Holy Ghost Byzantine Church inCharleroi and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He is survived by his wife, Donna Smith Napovanic of Donora; a daughter and son-in-law, Noelle and Scott Kearney of Perryopolis, three grandchildren, Devin Logue of South Carolina, Heather Rose Kearney of Shippensburg and Kean Kearney of Perryopolis; and his buddies, JB, Maggie, Cleopas and Lizzy. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, at LEONARD M, PAVLIC FUNERAL HOMES INC. 235 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, where Panachida will begin at noon Monday, Feb. 11, 2019, follow by funeral services at Holy Ghost Byzantine Church, Charleroi.
