Rostraver Township commissioners hope to make it easier for some residents to alter their properties through a new ordinance.
Known as the Village Residential District Ordinance, the proposed measure would modify the township’s zoning requirements in smaller communities, including Collinsburg, Webster, Van Meter, Lynnwood and Pricedale.
Commissioner Chairman Devin DeRienzo said Commissioner Raymond Iacoboni suggested the ordinance several years ago as a means to eliminate issues with certain setbacks and other property restrictions.
“That’s an older residential district and, when it was established, those houses used to be built almost on top of each other,” DeRienzo said. “With all the zoning setbacks in place now, it’s almost impossible for anyone looking to put on an addition, like a porch, a garage or even a handicap-accessible ramp, to do so.”
