McKeesport ready to run its own trash collections

Changes are on the horizon for the way residential garbage is collected within McKeesport’s city limits.
At Wednesday’s meeting, council unanimously voted to enter into a lease-purchase agreement with 911Leasing.com to acquire six new garbage vehicles — two smaller trucks, three large trucks and a dumpster loading roll-off truck — so the city’s public works department can begin its 2020 municipal waste management initiative.
The city’s trash collection services are currently handled by Rostraver Township-based Big’s Sanitation. The city’s garbage and recycling contract expires at the end of December.
The lease-purchase agreement will be managed through A&H Equipment of Hempfield, a state COSTARS Procurement Program participant.
