Re-enactor to present story of Union soldier
By Matt Petras
For the Mon Valley Independent
John Saporito had been doing an impression of a Union soldier Robert Gould Shaw for years when he decided to retire the act. He felt like he was getting too old to pass for Shaw.
However, because he got so many requests for a return, Saporito recently decided to bring back the characterization.
Saporito will bring his Shaw performance to California University of Pennsylvania’s monthly Civil War Roundtable at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Kara Alumni Building.
Saporito, 43, from Newport News, Va., has been fascinated by war history for most of his life. He’s been re-enacting historical wars since the late 1980s.
