Valley native, former Steelers scout Hughes dies at 75

Ron Hughes’ professional career really took off after he graduated from Charleroi High School and later California University of Pennsylvania.
That career included coaching high school football and a lengthy stint with the NFL, including many years in the scouting department of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Hughes, 75, died Tuesday in Michigan.
A native of St. Petersburg, Fla., his family moved to Charleroi, where he graduated in 1961. A star football player at Charleroi, he continued his athletic and academic career at Cal U, where he played center for the Vulcans.
