Bruce J. Matson – Belle Vernon

Bruce J. Matson, Sr., 77, of Belle Vernon, passed away on Feb. 22, 2019, in his home after a lengthy illness. He was born on Sept. 4, 1941, in Charleroi, the son of the late Bert Eugene and Jean Carson Matson. Bruce was a 1959 graduate of Charleroi High School. He was a longtime shift foreman at Mathies Mine and Maple Creek Mine. After retirement, he drove a school bus for Laidlaw and then became owner/operator of Kids World Ice Cream, servicing many communities in the Mon Valley. Bruce is survived by sons, Bruce Matson Jr. and wife Jeanette and Douglas Matson, all of Belle Vernon; granddaughter, Kaitlin Gorzelsky and husband Adam Gorzelsky of Latrobe; grandson, Nicholas Matson of Belle Vernon; great-grandson, Landon Gorzelsky; great-granddaughter, Lorelei Gorzelsky; and dear sister, Gloria Martin and husband James Martin of Spokane, Wash. Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive him. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Mr. Matson’s family would like to express its sincere thank you and appreciation to Dr. Sudha Nayer, Dr. Rajesh Shah, Dr. Ashok Jain and to the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care for its care, assistance and guidance while treating Bruce over the last several years.
