The building at 211 W. Main St. in Monongahela, despite some bumps in the road, will still be renovated – just not by the Monongahela Area Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber President Tony Bottino and Vice President Randy Rodriguez, held a press conference Wednesday at the site to update the community and residents about what is happening with the property.
Bottino said the decision to pursue a project at the site began a little more than two years ago.
“When this building went up for sale we had an office across the street,” he said. “We would look out at this building every day and could see that it was a key building on this block.”
He said after some discussion, around March 2017 the chamber developed a partnership with the Mon Valley Alliance and the organization’s former Chief Executive Office Christopher Whitlatch, in hopes of collaborating to bring life into the property and drive business downtown.
“Randy and myself had lunch with Chris at Hill’s restaurant to propose this project and he was open to the idea, so we proceeded with a building tour and proceeded with trying to identify what would be a good number to purchase the building for.”
