Woody’s Italian Restaurant co-owner Dan Antonelli said he and his employees are “lost” and “devastated” by a fire that ripped through the interior of the Versailles-based restaurant early Monday morning.

No one was inside when the blaze broke out around 1 a.m. at the restaurant located on Walnut Street, according to Antonelli.

The building is also the site of Woody’s Italian Catering, which is located in the basement.

Versailles and Elizabeth Central volunteer fire companies arrived around 1 a.m. to fight the fire at the well-known Mon-Yough Valley restaurant, which is located next to the entrance to the Boston Bridge.
