An 11-point halftime deficit turned out to be too much for Serra Catholic to overcome in its PIAA opener.
The Eagles got as close as four points in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t get over the top in Friday’s 51-43 loss to District 5 champion Everett in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A playoffs Friday night at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
After the Eagles (18-6), who came in as the fifth-place team from the WPIAL, trimmed the deficit to four with six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Everett (22-3) took control to seal the win.
“We had a decent start, but we just weren’t finishing our chances,” Serra Catholic head coach Bill Cleary said.
