The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is distributing $500.7 million in liquid fuels money to help municipalities maintain their roads and bridges this year.
Mon Valley communities will collectively receive almost $2.5 million.
The March 1 distribution marked a $11.7 million, or 2.4 percent, increase over the $489 million given out in 2018, thanks to Act 89 of 2013, which made more funding available for locally owned roadways.
Before the law, municipalities received $320.8 million in liquid fuels payments.
The annual distribution of the Municipal Liquid Fuels Program helps communities maintain highway- and bridge-related expenses, including snow removal and paving, on more than 120,000 miles of public roadways.
