Glassport police receive vest donation
By the Mon Valley Independent
When an Elizabeth Township resident and business owner learned a police officer in a neighboring community was in need of a ballistic vest, he immediately took action.
Rich Algeri, owner of Rich’s Parkside Den in the township’s Boston section, recently donated $900 to the Glassport police department for the purchase of a vest for Officer Tabatha Wolfe.
Wolfe currently works as a part-time officer for Glassport and Versailles boroughs.
Algeri said he wanted to step in to help after learning the burden of buying the bulletproof vest was on Wolfe. Part-time officers don’t get a uniform allowance until after they’ve worked for the borough for at least a year and the cost to stay safe on the job doesn’t come cheap for the officers, many of whom are juggling multiple jobs.
