Jasper, Sporio lead Vulcans in regional win

The Cal U women’s basketball team nearly let a huge lead slip away, but the Vulcans were able to squash a late Charleston rally to advance to the NCAA Atlantic Regional semifinals with an 82-71 win at Glenville State’s Waco Center.
The Vulcans led 30-9 after the first quarter and 51-26 at the half.
“Obviously we’re super excited to get a win,” Cal U coach Jess Strom said. “This time of year, any time you can advance, you’re just happy with it.”
The Vulcans (25-5) came into the game with a 1-2-2 zone defense, instead of their usual aggressive man-to-man. The move seemed to confuse the Golden Eagles (25-7).
