Restrictions begin on Elizabeth Bridge
Long-term lane restrictions on the Elizabeth Bridge on Route 51 in Elizabeth, Jefferson Hills and West Elizabeth boroughs began Monday.
Restrictions are implemented in each direction on Route 51 and the Elizabeth Bridge between Penneman Avenue and Elm Hollow Road, where a single 12-foot-wide lane will be maintained in each direction around the clock through late November.
PennDOT said the restrictions are necessary as major improvement work begins on the $31.3 million Elizabeth Bridge rehabilitation project.
Improvements include concrete deck and barrier replacement, steel repairs, expansion dam replacement, bearing repairs, concrete substructure repairs, full painting and drainage upgrades on the Elizabeth Bridge over the Monongahela River.
