Pennsylvania counties are making the transition to more secure and accessible voting systems with paper records.
According to a release Monday from the Department of State, 19 counties have taken official action toward acquiring new voting systems, either through a vote to purchase or lease a system or a vote to approve funding for new systems.
Westmoreland is the only local county on the list, joined by Beaver, Berks, Bradford, Butler, Centre, Clinton, Crawford, Greene, Lawrence, Lebanon, Lehigh, Mercer, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia, Pike, Susquehanna and Venango.
Westmoreland County Director of Elections Beth Lechman said funding has been approved, but a vendor for the new machines has not been selected. Interested vendors must submit proposals to the county by April 16.
