With several national HIV and AIDS awareness days right around the corner, the City of McKeesport and Allegheny County are providing opportunities to learn about and get tested for the conditions.
April 10 is National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day, April 18 is National Transgender HIV Testing Day, May 18 is HIV Vaccine Awareness Day and June 27 is National HIV Testing Day. The Allegheny County Health Department is encouraging all area residents to commemorate those days by getting tested.
In recognition of HIV and AIDS awareness, McKeesport city officials, adorned with red ribbon pins — a symbol of HIV/AIDS awareness — joined with parishioners and members of the Partnership for Minority HIV/AIDS Prevention on Saturday at Zion Baptist Church on Locust Street in McKeesport to celebrate the Biblical “balm in Gilead” as a day of prayer for the healing of HIV/AIDS.
The service is an annual observance in McKeesport in which men and women are encouraged to share, pray and network with one another about HIV/AIDS, the value of community and the power of prayer.
