Tensions rose as a debate over racism and free speech became the focus of a Monessen council meeting Thursday.
Councilman Dave Feehan invited Monessen resident Caleb Kolbeck Sr. to speak about concerns over social media posts made by Monessen Hilltop volunteer firefighter Albany Suzanne Deiley.
Kolbeck, who attended the meeting with members of a local NAACP organization and live streamed the discussion online, said Deiley recently posted comments on Facebook in support of another local firefighter, Joel Davis of Belle Vernon.
Davis commented on WPXI-TV Pittsburgh’s Facebook page that teenage protesters, many of whom were African-American, engaging in a demonstration in Allegheny County should be “sprayed in (the) face by fire truck.”
