There certainly is a lion, albeit a cowardly one, but don’t look forward to any tigers or bears at Serra Catholic High School’s musical production of “The Wizard of Oz” this weekend.
But, there will be plenty of heartwarming and comical moments as students portraying the cast of one of pop culture’s favorite classic hits take the stage in the gymnasium at Serra Catholic High School, 200 Hershey Drive, McKeesport, at 7 p.m. Wednesday. There are additional performances at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at the door and cost $8 for adults; $5 for students.
Dorothy Gale, played by Alani Dilonardo in Serra’s production, gives a goose-bump-enducing, arm-hair raising performance as she belts out “Somewhere Over The Rainbow,” made famous by actor and singer Judy Garland in the 1939 MGM film production, which was based on L. Frank Baum’s timeless novel “The Wizard of Oz.”
The music and lyrics in Serra’s production were written by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg.
