Members of the Volunteer Fireman’s Association of Liberty borough canvassed the town a few weeks ago “sounding the alarm” about the importance of fire safety and the use of smoke detectors.
The firefighters, along with volunteers and organizers from Serve Pro, Boy Scout Troop 53, the Liberty Boro Veterans Association — locally known as “The Vets Club” — and the American Red Cross, all adorned in American Red Cross vests, visited Liberty borough residents and installed free smoke detectors in their homes, according to Liberty Safety Officer Zac Allan.
The American Red Cross “Sound the Alarm” program was brought to the community through a grant, he said.
Allan said the initiative was an attempt to promote fire safety and remind people that a smoke detector can save lives, adding that members of LBVFD like to be “good neighbors.”
“The residents and borough council support our 100 percent volunteer fire department and we are always looking at ways to give back even more than what we do,” Allan said. “We had several teams going throughout the borough, and everyone was extremely receptive.
