Playing only its second game of the season, the Belle Vernon Area baseball team features a young bunch with just the right amount of senior leadership mixed in.
In Wednesday’s game against visiting Uniontown, it was all hands on deck as the Leopards rallied for a 5-3 win over the Red Raiders to notch their first win, and first Section 3-4A win, of the season.
“This is a big win for us,” BVA coach Daryl Hixenbaugh said. “We’re a young team this year and the young kids going through a game like this that we had to come back and win, that’s going to go a long way for them. And we needed those young guys tonight.”
The Leopards (1-1, 1-0) found themselves trailing early after the Red Raiders pushed across a run in the top of the first inning on a safety squeeze play with Nolan Sennett laying down the RBI bunt.
