A veteran who hails from McKeesport and his creative partner were recognized Wednesday at the Mc-Keesport Regional History & Heritage Center for helping to honor Vietnam War veterans who were killed in action.
Joined by History & Heritage Center acting board President Marianne Macbeth and board member Robert Hauser, Mayor Michael Cherepko presented proclamations to film producer Carl Truss, a 1966 McKeesport High School graduate, and “Let’s Talk” web show host/producer Diane Richard of Pittsburgh for creating two films documenting the story of “The McKeesport 23” and The Wall That Heals’ visit to Renziehausen Park last year.
“The McKeesport 23” refers to 23 servicemen born and raised in McKeesport who were killed in action in Vietnam between 1966 and 1971.
Maintained by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, The Wall That Heals is a three-quarter scale replica of the national Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. It honors the three million Americans who served in the conflict and features the names of more than 58,000 war dead, prisoners of war and troops missing in action. It was displayed at Renzie Park for four days in August at Jimmy Long Field.
