Port Vue Council presented a certificate of recognition to long-time borough school crossing guard James Bruce for his service to the community.
Bruce worked as a crossing guard for the past 16 years and retired from the position Monday. A 1948 graduate of McKeesport Vocational School, Bruce could boast many accolades in his lifetime, including being a handball champion and a novice Golden Gloves Champion, but he is most proud of never calling off a day from his job as a school crossing guard.
Councilman Frank Cortazzo said the borough is lucky to have school crossing guards as many boroughs don’t have them.
“They keep our children safe, we are very fortunate and all of you are appreciated,” Mayor Brien Hranics said.
