North Belle Vernon borough council on Tuesday rescinded an ordinance passed last year stating that Graham Street would become a one-way road once the street’s paving project was complete.
After “taking a beating” on Facebook, according to Councilman Brett Berish, he along with council members Geoffrey DeWitt, Robert J. Sokol, Jack Curran, Barbara Day and Paula Usher voted to reverse the ordinance. Councilman Jon Wasicek was absent.
Curran informed council that borough engineer Carl Deicas informed him that paving on the street will begin within two weeks, weather permitting.
Sokol said once the paving is completed, parallel parking spots will be painted on both sides of the road. During several meetings last year, council considered putting “pull-in,” diagonal parking spaces on one side of the street, but Sokol said the borough scrapped that plan.
