Whiten to handle code issues for Charleroi

Two weeks before his retirement with Washington County 911, Charleroi Fire Chief Robert Whiten Jr. is already excited to get back to work, but this time it’s for the borough.
Last month, council agreed to begin looking for a new code enforcement agency to replace Building Inspection Underwriters, which was hired in 2017.
Borough officials have cited several discrepancies with the service provided and claim a significant amount of money was lost.
Council President Jerry Jericho said the borough paid about $80,000 to the BIU in 2018 and received only $22,000 in fine money, not including building inspections.
