A local fallen hero who was stationed in North Versailles Township, along with the “McKeesport 23,” are being honored through a 5K run this summer.
White Oak-based Operation Vet NOW Inc.’s second annual Vet Connect 5K run & one-mile walk will be held at 8 a.m. June 8 in Mc-Keesport’s Renziehausen Park.
“With White Oak being our home for OVN, we wanted to start an event that pays tribute to some of our local heroes right here in the greater McKeesport area,” said Tony Aubrey, executive director of Operation Vet NOW, a national nonprofit veterans support organization developed to focus on the health and wellness of U.S. veterans regardless of the era in which they served.
OVN specializes in helping veterans cope with combat-related stress issues as well as mental health concerns stemming from military service. The organization provides “timely support to veterans events and programs designed to facilitate the increase of awareness, education and care of war fighters and their immediate family members,” according to the OVN website.
