A Washington County judge will soon hear the first ALS football-related injury trial in the country.
Judge Michael J. Lucas is slated to preside over the case against the National Collegiate Athletic Association, filed by former California University of Pennsylvania football player Matthew Onyshko.
Attorney Jason Luckasevic of Pittsburgh-based law firm Goldberg, Persky & White filed the lawsuit last week in Washington County Court’s civil division.
According to the suit, Onyshko and his wife, Jessica, have demanded a jury trial as a result of the injuries he sustained “as a proximate result” of the NCAA’s “failure to take effective action to protect Onyshko from the long-term effects of concussions and sub-concussive blows to the head suffered while he played collegiate football.”
